Dipping Water from:
*Gutter Miter
The underlying cause of this problem is the caulking.
It has either not be caulked or has not bonded properly. It could have also
split or pulled away.
The solution is
simple, caulk or recaulk the miter.
*Elbow at Downspout
The downspout return could be too shallow, or the
outlet may not be properly sealed. It could also be that the elbow was not
installed correctly.
The solutions: reslope the downspout return, reseat and
seal the outlet, or reinstall the elbow.
*Behind Rain Gutter
It could be that the tile or shingles are not out far
enough. To correct this, move the shingles or tiles out further.
Water may have gotten under the shingles or tiles. Make
sure to check for proper lapping on tile roofs.
It may be that the roof valley was improperly installed
or the roof is lacking proper flashing. Some things that may help are to
repair valley or shim with metal. Check for proper skylight, solar panel, or
vent flashing along with proper roof flashing.
It could be that the gutter is not behind the drip edge. To fix this
problem, loosen the gutter and shoved up behind the drip edge.
*End of Gutter
The end cap caulking could be missing or broken or the
rake tile is transferring water to gutter. Either recaulk the end cap or
adjust the rake tile, depending on diagnoses.
*Between Wall or the
Chimney and the End of the Gutter
The wall and chimney area should have a 3” piece of
diverter flashing installed as part of the roof flashing, without it water
cannot fall into the gutter.
Standing Water in Gutter
*Over 1”
Gutters are not sloped enough to drain all water out,
there for it is normal to have a little standing water (up to 1”). If you
are experiencing more then 1” of water it maybe possible that the gutters
need to been sloped, or they are too long for water to dissipate. It could
also be the house or fascia board is not level is some areas. Another
downspout may need to be added or the gutters may need to be lowered.
Water Overshooting the Gutter
* All around the house
or at the roof valleys
Your rain gutter may be too narrow or condensation in
the roof valleys can gain enough momentum to overshoot your gutter. You may
need to replace with wider gutters or install a Baffle at the roof
valleys.
Gutter Coming Loose from Fascia Board
Check your hangers, they could be bent,
improperly installed, spaced to far apart or the wrong hangers could have
been used. It could also be that the wood has dried which could cause screw
holes to expand. One more thing you might want to check is to see if the
spout is clogged or if the gutter is filling with water. The weight of the
debris can be pulling the fasteners loose.
Gutters Overflowing when it Rains
It probably has to do you with your downspout. You may
have debris blockage or not enough downspouts or your downspout return may
be too shallow. Installing a leaf protector, adding downspouts or modifying
your return to have a steeper angle are some of the ways to correct this
problem.
Gutters Tap after it Rains
The sound you are hearing is the water that is left in
your gutter is dripping down the downspout and hitting an elbow. To correct
this you can, slope the gutter more if it is a short section or install a vinyl
spout, or offset the downspout at the bottom at least six inches.
